| Report on 2011 Bay Area Competition Clinic The 8th Annual Bay Area Competition Clinic was held Saturday, September 10 at Las Positas College in Livermore. Approximately 160 players participated. Here is a report on the event.
Top Prospects: (*indicates highest consideration for this category) *6’3” SG/SF Dylan Alexander of Weston Ranch HS 2013 (Bay Area Hoosiers) Alexander is a deceptive athletic wing with nice lift. He can handle it and he pulls up fairly well in the half court. He is a solid driver with an ok first step and he shoots it well with 3-point range. He is also a capable rebounder. Alexander is somewhat inconsistent. 6’0” SG Aaron Berry of Heritage HS 2014 (Team Select 2015) Berry is a fairly athletic two guard who is very strong. He is a solid ball handler and passer who can make plays in transition. He is a good driver who finishes well. He is also an ok rebounder. A name to put on the 2014 radar for sure.
6’2” SF San Bide of Freedom HS 2013 (Blue Devils) Bide is an active and athletic three man. He can handle and pass and he can finish in transition. He is a fairly good driver but his shot needs some work. He is also a solid rebounder.
*6’0” SG Devon Boyd of Sacramento HS 2013 (Sacramento Red Raiders) Boyd is an athletic two guard who runs well. He can handle it and he makes plays in transition. He pulls up real in the half court. He also moves well without the ball. Boyd is a good driver a nice hesitation move.
*5’11” SG/PG Aaron Cameron of Sacramento HS 2013 (Sacramento Red Raiders) Cameron is an athletic combo guard who can run. He is a solid handler and passer who can make plays in transition. He moves well without the ball and is a fairly good shooter with 3-point range (showing the ability to catch and shoot). Cameron can also get to the basket on the drive with a nice hesitation move.
6’5” SF Jacqees Carraway of Rodriguez HS 2013 (Cordelia Stallions #1) Carraway is a fairly athletic three-man who runs the floor well. He pulls up fairly well half court, shoots it ok and is a capable rebounder.
6’0” SG/PG J.J. Crum of Bishop O’Dowd HS 2012 (Lakeshow #1) Crum is a combo guard with nice athleticism /quickness. He handles it fairly well and can make plays in transition. He is a capable driver and he defends the ball with strong pressure.
5’9” PG/SG Quentin Davis of Inderkum HS 2013 (Independent #1) Davis is an athletic combo guard who runs real well. He is a solid ball handler who is effective in transition. He moves fairly well without the ball and he can get to the basket on the drive.
*6’0 PG Kenneth Daye of West HS 2014 (Independent #1) Daye is a real athletic one man who is a smooth ball handler and passer. He is real effective finishing in transition. He is a good driver with a nice first step and a clever hesitation move. Daye will need to prove his perimeter shooting skills.
6’3” SF Jessie Dillard of Berkeley HS 2013 (East Bay Swag) Dillard is an athletic wing who can run and jump. He handles it ok and can pull up in the half court. He is a decent shooter and a solid driver.
*6’3” SG Jose Flores of Rodriguez HS 2014 (Cordelia Stallions #2) Flores is a two with solid skills who plays with a lot of confidence. He is a solid handler and passer who pulls up well- both in transition and in the half court. He is a good shooter with 3-point range and a capable defender. Flores belongs on any top prospect list for the class of 2014 in Nor Cal.
5’8” PG Vincent Golston of Skyline HS 2012 (Bay Area Hoosier) Golston is a real athletic one man who was likely the quickest player in the event. He handles it well and his real nice first step allows him to beat defenders one on one consistently. He also has a nice hesitation move. Golston is a good on-ball defender.
*6’1” SG/PG Rae Jackson of Rodriguez HS 2013 (Cordelia Stallions #2) Jackson is a combo guard who is an excellent athlete and can really run and jump. He is a solid handler and a real good passer who excels in transition. He is got an explosive first step and breaks down the defender consistently. He also shoots it ok with range to 3. Jackson does have a tendency to be a little too fancy times but he is clearly one of the elite prospect is Nor Cal in the class of 2013. 5’10” SG Isaiah Johnson of Freedom HS 2015 (Team Select 2015) Johnson is a two guard who has a burst of speed and is fairly effective in transition. He is a solid handler and an ok driver with a decent hesitation move. 6’3” SF Tim Jordan of Freedom HS 2013 (Blue Devils) Jordan is an athletic wing who runs and jumps well. He is an ok handler who does a nice job getting to the basket and finishing. He works hard defensively. 5’8” PG Devin Koeplin of Dublin HS 2013 (Bay Area Hoosiers) Koeplin is a competitive one-man with some skills. He handles and passes it well and can run a team. He is a fairly good shooter with 3-point range and has a nice floater shot. He does penetrate consistently and make plays in the lane.
*5’10” SG/PG Danny Mahoney of Hillsdale HS 2014 (Saints) Mahoney was the surprise player of the event with a standout all-around performance. He is a combo guard who is a decent athlete with nice all-around skills. He is a solid handler and a good passer who pulls up real well in transition. He is a good shooter with 3-point range and a solid driver. He also shows the ability to rebound from the guard position. Put Mahoney on the 2014 radar! He will be heard from a lot. 6’6” SF Matt Mareno of Redwood HS 2012 (Lakeshow #1) Mareno is an athletic wing with a versatile all-around game. He is a strong driver who attacks the basket and is a fairly good shooter with 3-point range. He also finishes well in transition. Mareno is a capable defender who can block shots and a solid rebounder.
*6’3” SG/SF Joe Mc Glaston of Dublin HS 2013 (Outlawz) Mc Glaston is a big-time athlete who can run and jump. He is an ok handler who is effective in transition (does a nice job finishing). He is a good driver with a real nice first step. His perimeter shot can use some work. Mc Glaston is a good rebounder and a capable defender. He is an elite prospect in the class of 2013 in Nor Cal. 6’6” PF Richard Meeks of Andrew Hill HS 2012 (Team Jump) Meeks is an active and athletic four man with a live body. He is a decent ball handler who has an ok one-bound drive. He has solid post up skills; he can dribble operate fairly well on the block and he has an ok turnaround shot. He is also a solid rebounder. Meeks is one who clearly got the attention of scouts with his performance.
*5’11” SG James Miller of Sacramento HS 2013 (Sacramento Red Raiders) Miller is a speedy two-man who can really run. He can handle and pass it and is impressive in transition. He pulls up fairly well half court, shoots it ok and is a solid driver. Miller is a high-energy player who never stops running. 6’1” SG/PG Devin Moss of Rocklin HS 2013 (Independent #2) Moss is a combo guard with fairly good strength and solid skills. He is a capable ball handler and an ok shooter with 3-point range. He is a real good rebounder from the guard position. 6’0” SG A.J. Newell of Berean Christian HS 2013 (Lakeshow #2) Newell is a strong-bodied two-man. He can handle the ball and he pulls up ok half court. He moves fairly well without the ball and is a good driver with an ok first step. He is also a solid defender.
6’1” SG Guillermo Nunez of Sierra HS 2013 (Independent #2) Nunez is a two-man with solid skills who runs the floor well. He handles it ok, is a good passer and shoots it ok with 3-point range. He can score in transition and is also a capable defender.
6’3” SF/PF Paramvir Palm Singh of Newark Memorial HS 2012 (Team Jump) Singh is a combo forward who does a little bit of everything. He is a decent handler who has an ok one-bound drive. He can shoot it some and he is a solid defender and rebounder.
5’8” PG Rodney Pope of Freedom HS 2014 (Team Select 2014) Pope is a fairly athletic one man who runs well. He handles and passes fairly well and gets things done in transition. He is a real effective penetrator with a good first step.
6’2” SG Peyton Prudhomme of San Ramon Valley HS 2013 (Lakeshow #2) Prudhomme is a two-guard who can run the floor. He is a decent ball handler, he moves fairly well without the ball and he is a good shooter with 3-point range. 6’0” SG/PG Phillip Randles of Edison HS 2013 (Bay Area Hoosiers) Randles is an athletic combo guard who runs well. He is a capable ball handler and passer who can make plays in transition. He is a solid driver with a fairly good first step and he shoots it ok.
6’0 PG Hayden Russell of Davis HS 2013 (Davis Wildcats) Russell is one who understands how to play. He is a solid ball handler and passer who can run a team. He makes good decisions and does a nice job of penetrating and dishing off to the man.
6’5” SF Anthony Smith of Burbank HS 2013 (Sacramento Red Raiders) Smith is a fairly athletic three-man who runs well. He does a nice job finishes in transition, is a decent shooter and has an ok first step.
6’1” SG/PG Giordi V’Soske of Dublin HS 2013 (Blue Devils) V’Soske is a combo guard with some skill. He is a solid ball handler and passer who is a fairly good driver/penetrator with a deceptive first step. He is also an ok shooter.
5’10” PG Jumoke Walker of Oakland HS 2013 (East Bay Swag) Walker is an athletic one man. He is a fairly good ball handler and passer who sees the floor well in transition. He is an effective penetrator/driver with a nice first step. 6’3” SG/SF Brandon White of Liberty HS 2013 (Lakeshow #2) White is a fairly athletic wing who is a nice scorer. He is a capable ball handler and passer who is ok making plays in transition. He is a solid driver who has a knack for getting to the basket.
