  • Report on 2017 West Coast Prospects Camp

Report on 2017 West Coast Prospects Camp

The 9th annual West Coast Prospects Camp was held Monday August 7th at Douglas College in New Westminster, British Columbia. Here is a report on the event.

    Top Prospects: (*indicates highest consideration)

    *5’10'' CG/W                     Nitin Klair of L.A. Matheson Secondary 2019                       2019       (Team 1)

Klair can play multiple positions and be effective in each. He’s a solid ball handler who finishes well in transition. He sees the floor well and does a nice job finding the open man.

*6’4'' PG                              Arsham Mahmoudi of Dr Charles Best HS                             2018       (Team 1)

Mahmoudi is a confident ball handler and a real good passer. He is a solid playmaker in transition (for himself and others) and has the ability to finish well. He has a deceptive first step on the drive and shoots it fairly well with 3-point range.

*6’3'' CG                              Caelan Scott of Oak Bay HS                                                         2018       (Team 2)

Scott is a combo guard with solid all-around skills. He handles it well and makes very timely passes on a consistent basis. He makes a lot of plays in transition and shows a nice hesitation move to get to the basket and finish. He shoots it well with deep range, has a solid pull-up game and a nice-looking floater shot. Scott is a little slender and could use some bulk/strength.

6’5'' SF                                  Jeevan Sidhu of Tamawanis HS                                                                 2018       (Wildcats)

Sidhu is a complete all-around scorer. His shot selection is a little shaky at times but he can score every way possible. He can finish in transition, pulls up ok in the half court, can shoot it some with 3 range and dribble operates ok on the block. He’s also a good passer who has the ability to find the open man.

*6’1'' CG                              Benjamin Simmons of Father Mercredi HS                          2018       (Team 2)

Simmons is a competitive combo guard who goes hard all the time. He attacks in transition and gets things done. He is a good shooter with 3 range and can get to the basket on the drive. He works hard on the defensive end on a consistent basis.

6’2'' CG                                                Richard Zhang of Dover Bay Secondary                                  2018       (Team 3)

Zhang is a real competitor with a motor that is always running. He’s a good ball handler and passer who makes pretty good decisions with the ball in his hands. He’s an aggressive driver who can finish in transition and in the half court. He is also an effective penetrator.
